“Dōbō Wakyō ” (同朋和敬)
fellowship and harmony;
The founding principle of Doho University is “Dōbō Wakyō ” (同朋和敬) =Harmony and Respect Among Fellow Human Beings;. It is derived from Japanese Buddhist Shinran Shonin’s (1173-1263) spirit of “Dōbō” (同朋)= fellows, fellow companions, equality of all beings; in other words the inclusive equality of all beings , which was inspired by the spirit of Harmony and Respect held by Prince Shotoku (574-622), Japan’s first patron of Buddhism .
Our guiding philosophy is to value the connections we make with fellow students and colleagues, fostering mutual respect and reverence while acknowledging our differences.

Mutual respect and reverence based on Shinran Shonin’s teachings
Amida, the great savior Buddha, wants us humans to live in the world of “infinite life.” Guided by this spirit, Doho University aspires to be a place where we “Learn Together” and “Grow Together.”
Creating space where hearts connect
Education rooted in mutual learning and growth must happen at a scale where people can truly meet, heart-to-heart. That is why Dohyo University is committed to maintaining an appropriate student body size.
Seeking genuine happiness
Happiness is a matter of the heart; it’s about being spiritually rich and possessing inner peace. Upon the reflections of the past, we can surmise that the 21st century will be a period marked by a search for spiritual richness. It goes to stand that in such a period, the social demands on our university will continue to increase. With that being said, we are confident that Doho University will continue to demonstrate its value in the 21st century and make a significant contribution to society.
Pondering the true meaning of learning
Doho University has two faculties, three departments, a Graduate School and a Special Course. Naturally, students come to university to study diligently in their chosen fields, acquire specialized knowledge, and earn various qualifications. However, learning is not just about acquiring knowledge. what is learning? We believe that it is about discovering yourself by questioning who you are and what constitutes a meaningful life for you—it is about learning about yourself.
