Faculty of Letters: Department of Humanities
Honing the ability to think deeply and cultivate knowledge to thrive in the present day, while seeking truth from literature, history, philosophy, and culture.
Students research literature and language, the history, culture, philosophy, and beliefs of various regions, as well as contemporary cultures, such as subculture.
By exploring the essence of the question “what have people thought and how have they acted,” students gain a clear understanding of themselves in the present day, and cultivate knowledge of truths needed to thrive in society.

Department of Humanities at Doho University
Well-versed faculty members in matters spanning ancient times to present day
Full-time faculty members instruct courses in history and literature across a wide period from ancient times to the present day. Furthermore, students can deepen their knowledge of various fields including philosophy and contemporary cultures, such as subculture. Additionally, the admission numbers for each group seminar (zemi) are small, ensuring students receive close attentive direction.
Carefully reading literature and fostering strong deep thinking skills
Carefully reading and understanding what is written, and then using that as a basis for deep thinking, is one of the most important foundational skills in the humanities. Students hone that skill through group seminars and tutorials dedicated to foundational studies and literature reading.
Extracurricular courses and special lectures
Students have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, including classroom-based lessons, museum and art gallery trips, and special lectures where they can watch presentations of traditional performing arts and view authentic works of art and historical documents up close.
Foreign Language Course and Foreign Culture Course
The Foreign Language Course offers students the opportunity to learn English and experience foreign cultures, while in the Foreign Culture Course centers on faculty member accompanied visits to Buddhist relics in Asia to learn about culture.
Doho University is a member of the University Partnership Program of The Tokugawa Art Museum and Nagoya City Museum, and students can visit both museums free of charge by showing their student ID cards.
