Child Science Studies

Towards a society where children can live safely
A pathway to becoming a passionate and caring child expert with highly specialized knowledge in children and their surrounding familial environments. By combining classroom lectures and tutorials with work placements in the field, particularly in psychology, early childhood education, and pedagogy, students develop skills and knowledge that can be used in various settings such as daycare centers, kindergartens, facilities for children with disabilities, foster homes, and community-based child-rearing support.

Child Science Studies at Doho University

Kids’ College

Kids’ College is a community-based child-rearing support initiative organized by Child Science Studies. Children who have not been to or are not enrolled in kindergarten or daycare are invited along with their guardians to participate in activities like hand games, interactive play, and singing. These activities provide a practical way for students to learn how to engage and interact with children. From the first year onwards, students who participate get to interact with the children and form a clear idea of what it is like to work with children and build confidence for the work placements that follow.

Nursery psychologist certification (Otani Hoiku Kyokai certification)

Students can become certified nursery psychologists (class-2) who specialize in providing emotional support to children and their guardians. In childcare settings, there are often children who struggle to interact with their peers, as well as parents who are concerned about this. Nursery psychologists are professionals who offer support and guidance to both the children and their guardians.

Extensive work placement opportunities

Early childhood education and childcare-related work placements are available at the university’s very own Doho Kindergarten and other kindergartens and daycare centers. Additionally, students can deepen their understanding of children and gain direct experience working with them through work placements at facilities, such as nurseries, foster homes, and facilities for children with disabilities.

Community-linked volunteering

Volunteering opportunities are available by connecting with facilities and daycare centers in communities, such as Nakamura-ku and Ama City.
